J's Steak Frites Queen

Atmosphere is pretty good, the service staff is friendly and the food was pretty good. They offer a fixed priced menu - comes with a salad, 10oz steak and fries for each person at $60/person. Fries are unlimited and they’re fried in beef fat, it’s delicious! We wanted to try it all so we got 2 cocktails, a bottle of wine and 2 deserts (red velvet and pistachios). Bill was a little high however pretty good experience to try out.

We had a pleasant birthday dinner and the restaurant was able to accommodate 14 guests (2added at the last minute). I rated them a three star on service because one server/hostess in particular was being extremely difficult. Half of our party also had to wait to be seated because the tables weren’t ready. They were literally standing at the door until people were done eating. Our server Sarah, however, was extremely friendly, sweet and accommodating. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food. Some complained that their steak was too salty. We were happy to hear that the frites were cooked in beef tallow. The salad was a nice touch. We were disappointed the Ferrero chocolate cake was sold out—there was one slice left, but it wasn’t offered to us, even though we were celebrating a birthday and had finished dinner before the table it was offered to.

This was our first time trying this place and it was amazing! The salad was really good and the walnuts were a great addition to the dish. The bread was hard and crunchy but it was very tasty with the butter. We got our steaks done medium rare and it was the best steak we’ve ever had. The fries are also super crispy and tasted like elevated McDonalds fries lol. The espresso cake was delicious and the raspberry dessert was also really well made. The service was great and all the staff are super friendly and nice. One of the servers kept coincidentally asking if the food was good the moment I took a bite and started eating which was very silly. The atmosphere is so nice and the interior decorating is super cute. The entire restaurant feels very vintage with the old architecture and interior design. All of the songs that played at the restaurant were bangers and whoever was in charge of the music did a good job. Overall I would recommend this restaurant and I’d definitely come back again!

Edit: We have just gone for our re-scheduled reservation and the food and service were phenomenal. Best steak I’ve had in a long time, if not ever. Fries and dessert were also top notch. Amazing 180 from our initial experience. Value for money also very good. This restaurant did not allow us to cancel a reservation the day of, indicating we can only reschedule as a “one-time courtesy”. The reason for cancellation was a huge winter storm that did not allow us to make it. As we do not live in Toronto, we will now have to trek to the city just to make our re-scheduled reservation. This has left a bad taste in our mouths from the top, and for anything that’s to follow. Customer service is everything in this industry, and we are a bit shocked at the treatment here (as are friends and family when we tell them the situation). There are circumstances where policies should be flexible… but when you put profits before guests’ well-being… we’re unsure what to anticipate for our experience here.

Nice restaurant, good vibes. Not sure if our server was shy or just reserved but attentive. Starter salad was greens with a vinaigrette and walnuts were good, not overpowering or cloyingly sweet. Steak was tender, well seasoned and good without too much fat. Fries were good but too salty for my taste. I read an earlier review where someone ate 6 plates(!), barely managed 2 and only ate half my steak. The thought of unlimited fries is nice, but it was poorly executed by my table (weaklings). Butter sauce (Béarnaise), was good but you soon tire of it, so smart to just add it to your plate as you go.Dessert was ok, one person ordered the opera cake but it was dipped in coffee and didn’t soak into the cake but sat on the outside of the cake making it a bit too wet. Coffee at the end was so good, strong, not bitter and a great end to the meal.

Cozy little place, amazing steak, and the service was great! The steak was cooked perfectly, and the house butter sauce was delicious! Really good value for the amount of good food you get (especially with the unlimited fries). Definitely a perfect date night spot too!

Came for a birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. Very enjoyable! Excellent service and atmosphere. Food was cooked perfectly, both the steak and frites. The sauce that comes with the meal was also very tasty. A great experience, a must go for steak frites in Toronto!
